The Magic of the Iron Zapper Treatment System

The Iron Zapper offers an exceptionally powerful iron-removing water treatment system for wells in Sarasota and Bradenton.

We love a well.

Especially in more rural areas in east Manatee and Sarasota, well water can be a valuable, cost-effective way to get your drinking water or just to water your property and crops. You’re bypassing our municipal water supply and getting your water for the price of a little bit of electricity to power your pump.

The only problem? Your well water still needs to be treated. Not only is well water at risk for very dangerous contaminations, even the freshest Florida spring water is going to have high levels of iron. And even at safe levels for humans, iron can still cause big problems.

Never fear, Healthy Water is here! As licensed, locally owned Manatee County water treatment experts based north of the river, we have a lot of experience working with local wells. And one of the best tools we have for tackling the high iron levels in our local water is with the Iron Zapper.

Why aren’t regular water filters enough for removing iron?

The problem with many water filters is that they use media (ie the “stuff” that’s doing the filtering) with holes that are large enough to let the iron molecules flow right by. While microorganisms are large enough to get trapped by these holes, when you’re dealing with molecules, you’ve got a whole other hole problem.

But then, if you make the holes smaller, you start impairing the water flow. And no one wants to sacrifice water pressure.

How is the Iron Zapper different?

The Iron Zapper takes a novel approach: Rather than making the holes smaller, it makes the molecules bigger.

Chemically speaking, iron is unstable. It tends to lose its electrons. Oxygen, on the other hand, loves to gobble up those electrons. So those two elements love to get together to form a more stable compound. So the Iron Zapper facilitates this coupling.

By structuring its filtration media in such a way that incorporates a pocket of air, the unfiltered water first encounters oxygen. And that’s when the iron and the oxygen have a chance to bond, creating a larger structure. When that oxidized iron then hits the filter, it’s stopped like anything else.

Do I still need to filter out the iron if I’m just using my well to water the plants?

As we mentioned above, small amounts of iron aren’t necessarily a health issue, but they can still cause other problems.

Blockages: You know how those iron molecules get bigger when they encounter oxygen? Well if they’re not filtered out first, they’re going to hit oxygen at some point in your pipes, your spigots, and your sprinklers. And instead of getting trapped in the filter, they’ll get trapped in your systems and create blockages.

Aesthetic issues: And of course, iron deposits just look bad. Even if the water never gets inside your home, those iron deposits will leave gross, brown-orange spots on anything the water touches—including your sidewalks, the exterior of your home, and even your vehicles.

The Iron Zapper solution for Sarsaota-Bradenton well water.

The bottom line: Iron is, at best, annoying and at worst an element that can cause damage to your well system and plumbing. And everyday filters won’t fix it.

The beauty of the Iron Zapper is that it’s not exactly reinventing the wheel. Most folks already know how filters work, and many people appreciate the fact that filters aren’t putting anything into your water; they’re just taking it out. And people with wells especially will appreciate the absence of things like chlorine, which is added to municipal water.

If you’re new to your Sarasota-Bradenton well water, or you’ve been dealing with iron deposits for a long time, we’ve got the solution for you. It’s straightforward, and it works.
